| Frequently Asked
Questions |
Q: Isn't your name misspelled?
A: Not really. It is M-a-r-t-i-n-u-s. The much more common version,
Martinez, is Spanish in origin and I am not. While both are derived from
Latin (meaning one descended from the god of war, Mars), the
Martinuses of my family are Czech, dêkuji pêknê (thank you very
much). |
Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: 2005-2006 will be my eleventh year in a junior high/middle school
classroom. I taught 8th grade in Indiana for five years and I came to
Mokena's 6th grade in the fall of 2000. In between, I earned my Master's
Degree and taught education courses at the University of Michigan.

Q: What's up with the Red Wings and Tigers pennants in my classroom?
A: I'm a native of the Great Lake State, and although I've never been much
of a Lions or Pistons fan, I still cling to my home hockey and baseball
teams. By the way, my favorite football team is the Bears; I also root for
the Bulls and the Wolves.

Q: What does BSU stand for?
A: Ball State University. It's where I earned my bachelor's degree (fellow
alumni include: TV's David Letterman, Garfield creator Jim Davis, the CEO of
the American Cancer Society Dr. John R. Seffrin, actress Cynda Williams,
ESPN 1000 radio host Dan McNeil, NBA shooting guard Bonzi Wells, former
Pro-Bowl defensive back Blaine Bishop, and the Bear's punter Brad Maynard).
