| The School Day |
| School begins at 8:55 a.m.
Students should not arrive at school before 8:30 a.m., as there
will be no supervision. Students who ride our buses are
dismissed at 3:15 p.m.; students who walk, ride bikes, or are
picked up are dismissed at 3:25 p.m. Half-Day Kindergarten
ends at 11:35 a.m. On half-day early dismissal days,
dismissal is at 11:40 a.m. Before Thanksgiving, winter and
spring breaks, dismissal begins at 2:15 p.m. |

| Reporting Absences |
| If a child will be absent from
school, we ask that the parent call in on our absentee line,
478-4212. After the brief, recorded message, please leave
your name (spell the last name), your child's name and homeroom,
and the reason for and length of the absence. |
|
| Changes to Daily
Transportation |
| If a change needs to be made to a
child's regular, daily transportation routine, a note
must be sent to the teacher
explaining the change to take place. Please include in your note the child's
full name, the parent's full name, and the teacher's name.
If your child is going to be picked up by someone other than a
parent, include the name of that person in your note.
Explain to the person picking up your child that proper
identification may need to be provided to the MES office. Unless proper notification is sent with the child, he/she will
be sent home in the usual manner.

|
| Early Student Pick-Up |
If you are planning to pick up
your child prior to the regular dismissal time, please do so by
2:50 p.m. and sign the student out in the school office.
Please send a note to your child's teacher regarding an early
pick up from school. This note is sent by the teacher to the
office; with this in mind, please include in your note the
child's full name, the parent's full name, the name of the
person who will be picking the child up, and the teacher's
name. This will avoid any confusion with your child's
transportation needs.
If you telephone the office to pick up your child early, or to
change their transportation from being a bus rider to a
walker/car rider, you must come into the school and sign
the child out. Proper identification may be required prior
to leaving with your child. |
|
| School Closing Information |
| School closing information can be
acquired by using the
Cancellations.com website or calling Dial-to-Education
(478-4242). Announcements will be made between 6:30 and
8:00 am on WJOL (AM-1340), WBBM (AM-780) and Channel 9

|
| Student Information
Updates |
| Throughout the course of a school
year, many changes take place in the lives of the children at
MES. We would greatly appreciate
continual updates on student information as the
school year progresses. For the safety of our students,
changes in telephone numbers (home, work, cellular), medical
information, etc. need to be provided as soon as changes take
place. |
|
| Lunch |
| Students may purchase a hot lunch
each day for $1.75. Cartons of milk are available for
$0.30 for students who wish to bring a sack lunch. Menus
go home with students at the beginning of each month. |
|
| Medication |
| Briefly, if medication is to be
dispensed at school for more than two weeks, the nurse
must have a written order
from the physician as well as a written request from the parent.
To give non-prescription medication, on a short-term basis, the
nurse must have a written request from the parent. All
medication must be provided in the original container and must
be brought to the school office by the parent or other
designated adult. Please consult the
Parent/Student
Handbook for details of the medication policy. |
|
| Parking |
| Parents are asked to park, as
designated, in the large lot in front of the school. The
upper road, closest to the school, as well as the access road
between MES and MIS, are reserved for buses, day care vans and
emergency vehicles only. |
|
| Parent Involvement |
| There are a number of ways that
parents can become involved in our schools. We welcome you
to participate in our Volunteer program by becoming a
mentor or clerical volunteer. We also have a very active
P.T.A., Mokena Educational Foundation, Music
Booster and Athletic Booster organizations which are
always looking for willing workers. Contact the school
office for more information on these very worthwhile
organizations. |
