When a significant event
takes place in a family, everyone in the family is affected.
Although death and divorce seem to be adult problems, children can have
profound reactions to these changes. The Kids Connection Program
was developed by our staff to provide support to children who are
experiencing a painful transition or loss.
The Kids Connection Program consists of twelve weekly group meetings
held before school in November through February. This program is
available to students Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. Sensitive,
caring staff members volunteer to help children express their feelings,
build a stronger self-esteem, and adjust to the changes in their family.
Permission slips are sent home with students in the fall.
If your child is part of a single-parent family, blended family, or has
experienced the death of a family member, this is an opportunity for him
or her to share with someone special what they are going through, as
well as make a 'connection' with other children who share similar
experiences.
